Unveiling of Commemorative Plaque

Ar an Déardaoin, 6ú Bealtaine 2010 thug Peadar Ó Riada, mac le Seán Ó Riada, cuairt ar an scoil chun phlaic ag comóradh 25 bliain den scoil a nochtadh. Bhí an-áthas ar gach duine agus onóir don scoil go raibh sé in ann teacht chugainn. In onóir na hócáide sin, chum Peadar píosa ceoil do pháistí na scoile , agus bhíodar ar fad ullamh chun an “premiere” don phíosa ceoil seo a sheinnt dó . Bhí roinnt pictiúirí againn ar iasacht ó Choláiste na hOllscoile, agus labhair Peadar leis na páistí mar gheall ar a athair , ar laethe a óige i gCúil Aodha agus an tábhacht a bhaineann lenár gcultúr agus ár dteanga a choiméad beo.

The plaque was unveiled to commemorate 25 years of Gaelscoil Uí Riada, and the whole school community was very proud that Peadar Ó Riada was available to perform the unveiling. Peadar also wrote a piece of music especially for the children of Gaelscoil Uí Riada, in honour of the occasion. After the unveiling of the plaque, the children performed the new composition for the first time – giving them the opportunity to be the first to play a newly composed piece! Also on display for the occasion were picture panels of O Riada and his family , and Peadar was able to speak to the children about his childhood and his life in Cúil Aodha. He also spoke about the importance of keeping our own culture- language , music and songs alive. Overall, it was an inspirational day for everyone inthe school and a day to be remembered.
