The Lord Mayor's Visit 2015
The Lord Mayor of Cork City - Chris O Leary visited Gaelscoil Uí Riada on Tuesday 15th September. Everyone in the school welcomed him and his wife who accompanied him.
The Lord Mayor spoke about having respect for others and particularly other pupils in school. He said that all children had a right to be able to attend and enjoy school without others making life difficult for them. He then spoke about the upcoming centenary celebration of the Easter Rising of 1916 and urged the pupils to learn about the story of 1916 in their own families.
He advised the children to speak to grandparents - or greatgrandparents if they were still alive - and learn from them about what happened and if the events had any impact on their own family.
Finally, all the pupils entertained the Lord Mayor with a rendition of " An Poc ar Buile" and a tune on the tin whistle to bring proceedings to a conclusion.
